North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Screen Shot 2015-10-09 at 15.20.18A leading North East events firm is continuing to sow the seeds of success after catering for its first off-site wedding – at a garden centre.

1879 Events Management, which manages catering and events at National Glass Centre and Stadium of Light, Sunderland, as well as The Beach House bistro, Roker, also offers a wide range of services for gatherings at other venues.

This summer the SAFC subsidiary, which has already catered for a variety of festivals, awards ceremonies and meetings across the North East, successfully delivered its first off-site wedding reception.

The event, which followed the nuptials of Chris and Sarah Metcalfe at a nearby church, was held in a specially-erected marquee at Poplar Tree Garden Centre, Shincliffe Village, County Durham – and was not without its challenges.

Michael Laidler, Key Account Executive at 1879 Events Management, said: “Catering for an event like this can be tough because we often don’t have access to an established kitchen or bar.

“Thankfully we were able to utilise our experience to provide both for Chris and Sarah’s celebrations, as well as ensuring staff were on hand to serve guests throughout the day.”

Using a temporary kitchen, created in a secondary marquee, 1879 Events Management delivered canapes, along with a bespoke, three-course wedding meal for Sarah, Chris and their 128 daytime guests.

This included North Shields smoked and poached potted salmon, slow cooked daube of beef and black forest cheesecake, as well as additional options for guests who were vegetarian, pregnant and gluten free.

The firm, which even helped to dress the room, also provided all linens, cutlery and crockery, as well as a fully-staffed cash bar which operated throughout the day and into the evening reception, where Chris and Sarah welcomed an additional 50 guests.

Bride Sarah, said: “Initially I was anxious about the amount of stress associated with planning a wedding but 1879 Events Management could not have been more professional or supportive.

“I had some very specific requests, such as having food with little sauce that could cause havoc with dresses, but these were all included in our plans and highlighted the firm’s close attention to detail.

“We were also impressed with the variety, value for money and quality of food they were able to offer.  Just knowing everything was under control, was a huge relief, both in the build-up and on the day itself.”
