Borough set to get a Great British Spring Clean

EVERY corner of Redcar and Cleveland will be getting a spruce up as part of the ‘Love it’ campaign and the Great British Spring Clean.

More than 30 litter picks, Bring Out Your Dross (BOYD) events and environmental works will take place from now until Tuesday 8 March – encompassing the Spring Clean which takes place between 2 & 4 March.

All the events embrace the spirit of the Redcar & Cleveland ‘Love it’ campaign, which encourages residents to do one small thing to make a big difference to the environment of their local area.

As part of ‘Love it’ the council will be assisting community & voluntary groups, schools and Scout Groups with equipment and disposing of all the rubbish groups collect over the course of the two weeks the events are taking place.

Feature events include the Skelton Scouts doing a litter pick at Layland Beck community park, staff from McDonalds in Eston working with council Clean & Green staff to do a litter pick in that area, as well as an always popular BOYD event in Boosbeck and north Grangetown on Monday 5 March and Newcomen ward on Tuesday 6 March.

Cllr Alec Brown, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “We are proud to support the Great British Spring Clean which has provided the perfect opportunity to support local schools and community & voluntary groups as well as bringing them all together under the ‘Love it’ banner.

“I want to thank all the dedicated volunteers from various groups across Redcar and Cleveland give up their own time to pick up rubbish in their local area. I also want to give an extra thank you to the private businesses – including McDonalds, Thirteen Group, Coast & Country Housing and Costa Coffee – for working alongside the council helping to support ‘Love it’ across the borough.”
