A County Durham nursery has celebrated ten years of successful business by hosting a fun day for families who have used the service over the last decade.

Shildon Early Years Day Nursery, which is run by Durham County Council, invited staff, parents and children, past and present, to the event and the day was attended by around 100 people, including Mayor of Shildon Trish Pemberton, Cllr Henry Nicholson and Alan Walker, the chair and leader of Shildon Town Council respectively.

Attractions included: The Bishop Auckland fire service, local PCSOs with their police van, balloon making, face painting, a photo booth, cake stall, tombola, a visit from Leo the lion and more.

A special 10 th birthday cake was cut and a memory book was contributed to by many of the families who have used the service and others brought in some of their children’s learning journals from their time at the nursery.

Kim Roberts, Nursery manager, said: “It was a wonderful celebration of the last decade here at the nursery and it was particularly nice to see staff and former families sharing memories together.

“Some of the children who used to attend when there were babies could even remember their time with us and these children are now heading to comprehensive school, having developed lasting friendships here at nursery, which is lovely to see.

“Staff members here have worked hard over the last ten years to make our nursery a welcoming and engaging place for local children and we look forward to many more years helping the children in this area develop and learn.”
