Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Solid summer of growth as NE high risers win £ ½ million in UK-wide work

Roch Castle- STS Summer 2016 MAY7Darlington-based Stone Technical Services (STS) has secured over half a million pounds’ worth of new contracts for the summer months across all four of its divisions.

The restoration, maintenance and high level repair experts are working at the Royal Courts of Justice and St Paul’s Cathedral in London, Colchester Roman Town Walls in Essex, Roch Castle in Pembrokeshire, Lewes Crown Court in East Sussex and Ineos at Seal Sands on Teesside on a variety of projects.

In London, STS is carrying out a range of high level roof and chimney surveys and internal surveys at the Royal Courts of Justice on The Strand as well as working at St Paul’s Cathedral to design a specialist access scaffold to allow for the refurbishment of the famous Thornhill Paintings. The dome access scaffold is being used by St Pauls’ architects to carry our repairs to the paintings which date back to the 1700s.

STS has been commissioned by Colchester Borough Homes to carry out a specialist restoration of Colchester’s ancient Roman boundary walls. The project here includes consolidation works, renewal of masonry and lime mortar repairs.

In Wales, STS has secured work at the luxury Roch Castle hotel to provide specialist coatings to protect the 12th Century Norman building from weather damage, while at Lewes Crown Court, STS is working with MITIE to restore historic windows.

On Teesside, STS industrial experts have returned to Ineos at Seal Sands to work on a month-long project inspecting and maintaining the 100 feet high flare stacks and chimneys as part of the plant’s planned shutdown.

STS employs a team of 40 and is ahead of its growth plans for 2016 thanks to a successful first half of the year.

MD Dave Stone said: “It’s proving to be a really productive summer for the team following a good first half of 2016 across all of our divisions. It’s great to see growth in all areas of our business and across the UK as well. Many organisations prepare now for the winter months so we’re working on a real mix of heritage and industrial projects which involve our whole team.”

STS is made up of four divisions –STS Lightning Protection, STS Restoration, STS Maintenance and Facilities Management and STS Conservation.

Darlington brothers, Dave and Grahame Stone, established Stone Technical Services in 1998 and now have offices in Edinburgh city centre, near Stockport in Cheshire and in central London as well as their HQ on Kellaw Road in Darlington

STS are experts in the field of historic restoration and maintenance projects and work with various churches, councils and schools around the UK as well as the likes of English Heritage and the National Trust and on buildings such as St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Hall and the Royal Courts of Justice.
