The world’s smallest ice cream van stopped off in Newcastle yesterday, delighting shoppers at intu Eldon Square with free ice cream as part of its pledge to make customers smile.
The ‘Nice Cream Van’, which also visited intu Metrocentre last Friday, measures just 47 inches long and 39 inches high and made its way around the centre at a maximum speed of 12MPH. It is currently on a nationwide tour handing thousands of ice creams to intu shoppers.
The tour of the tiny van follows research revealing that eating ice cream is one of the top ten things that make people in the north east happiest in the summer.
Katy Johnson, 32, from Boldon was visiting intu Eldon Square with her son James, 4, when they received a sweet treat from the Nice Cream Van. Katy said: “It was such a lovely surprise – no matter what the weather’s like outside, having an ice cream always makes you feel more summery!”
Alice Wade, 41, and her daughter Emily, 10, from Hexham were shopping in intu Metrocentre on Friday when Emily spotted the Nice Cream Van. Emily said: “The Nice Cream Van is so cute and fun – I loved seeing it drive around! The ice cream was really yummy too!”
Karen Carr, regional marketing manager, intu north, comments:
“We’re delighted to have created what we believe is the world’s smallest ice cream van but the real win will be seeing the smiles it puts on people’s faces at intu shopping centres around the country for those lucky enough to get free ice cream. We work really hard to create experiences that will surprise and delight our customers and make each individual shopping trip a happier, more memorable one. At intu we have something for everyone and whether you’re someone who loves to shop or a bit more of a last minute panic shopper, we aim to ensure you leave happier than when you arrived.”
