Scarborough Borough Council has launched its 2015 competition to find winning designs for birthday cards aimed at encouraging young people to vote. Prizes will be awarded in two categories; under 16 and over 16. The winner of each category will win a £25 One4All gift card, which can be spent in over 21,000 outlets nationwide and online.
The winning designs will be used on birthday cards, which will be sent to 18 year olds during the forthcoming year to congratulate them on becoming an adult and to encourage them to take up their legal right to vote in all elections.
Entries should be A4 in size (landscape or portrait) and submitted as a high resolution jpeg image via email to electors@scarborough.gov.uk with the wording ‘18th birthday card competition entry’ in the email subject heading. The size of the file should not exceed 10MB. Designers must include their name, age and contact telephone number in the body of the email.
The closing date for entries is Friday 6 November. Winners will be notified by Wednesday 11th November and prize giving will take place at the Town Hall in Scarborough on Monday 16th November 2015.
Kerry Russett, Elections Manager said:
“We’ve had some fantastic designs submitted in the past and we can’t wait to see what innovative entries we receive for this year’s competition. There are no strict rules on what the designs should illustrate but of course they should be themed around voting and they need to appeal to young people.”
The council has sent 18th birthday cards and a guide to voting to young people who are included on the electoral register since 2001.
