Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Toby Takes Golden Glory!

Longbenton youngster Toby Caisley broke the Junior Boy’s Durham/Northumberland Wing Air Cadets 50m freestyle record to take Gold at this year’s Swimming Championships.

The 15-year-old’s time of 31.11 seconds beat the previous record by over a second and helped the Junior Boys’ team to take gold in the relay medley and their category. Toby also took gold in the individual medley.

Overall, the Longbenton Squadron finished just short of the podium at The Lousiana Centre, Stanley. The fourth place position though, is the highest the squadron has finished in the pool.

Toby said: “It was a really good competition and fun to take part in. Everyone swam the best that they could and to have won gold in my event is amazing, plus it’s great that we came the highest we ever have.”

Squadron Officer Commanding, Flight Lieutenant Gary Richardson said; “We are tremendously proud of Toby’s achievement. He clearly has a talent and, like with so many of our young people, it’s a great pleasure to watch that talent grow through the activities we provide.”

This year, TeamLB has won gold in the Cross Country Championships and silver in the Athletics Championships.

Longbenton Squadron is currently open to new members in Year 8 and above. If you’re up for a challenge then visit the squadron at www.2344.org.uk.
