Just a few months after visiting the Weavers Court Extra Care scheme while it was still under construction, local MP Anne-Marie Trevelyan has returned to meet some of the new residents and hear about the sense of community they have developed.

Mrs Trevelyan was met by scheme manager David Curran and Isos executive director of development Michael Farr, who had overall responsibility for the development of the £7m building.

The Extra Care scheme was developed with £1.943,000 of funding from the Department of Health’s Care and Supported Housing Fund, which is administered by the Homes & Communities Agency.

Mrs Trevelyan was given a tour of the building, met several Weavers’ Court residents, and got the chance to see an apartment on the ground floor of the three storey building.

She also heard how activities coordinator Liz Pratt is responsible for ensuring there is always a varied and stimulating programme of activities available for Weavers’ Court residents to enjoy.

Weavers’ Court has already proven very popular with all its 28 rented apartments now occupied, and sales of Shared Ownership homes are progressing well, with only 14 remaining.

Mrs Trevelyan said: “It was amazing to return to Weavers Courts and see the completed scheme. I was delighted to meet residents in their spacious lounge and chat to them about the facilities which they were very pleased with. On my tour of the scheme I was impressed with the quality and quantity of facilities that Isos had incorporated. This is definitely a template for the future when developing Extra Care facilities”.

Mr Farr said: “We are very proud of Weavers’ Court and the work David and his colleague Liz have done there, so it’s always a pleasure to host visitors and show off the facilities.

“We hope that seeing Weavers’ Court again, now it’s complete, has been valuable for Mrs Trevelyan, and seeing an Extra Care facility close up helps to demonstrate the fantastic contribution they make to the communities we serve.”
