Ingleby and Mandale House care homes, in Stockton on Tees, want to create twiddle muffs and cushions for residents living with dementia.
Volunteers and tutors are needed to help the residents, staff, family and friends.
Liz Jones, Customer Relations Officer for the Hill Care Group, which operates the homes, said: “We have all the equipment and the wool – we just need the expertise.
“Any knitters out there who can lend us their time to teach our residents will be rewarded with good company and hot drinks. We would be hugely grateful.”
The homes are planning to make twiddles muffs and cushions – designed to occupy residents living with dementia.
Tactile items such as buttons, ribbons and bells are sewn onto the hand- knitted muffs and cushions for residents to “twiddle”
Liz added: “Residents living with dementia often have busy hands and something as simple as twiddle muffs provide enormous benefits.
“They are a source of visual, tactile and sensory stimulation, providing a calming and relaxing influence as well as keeping their hands snug and warm.”
