Liverpool is the top dating hotspot this Valentine’s Day, with a final romance score of 9.38/10. The city is second best for dating app users (9.17/10), with around 290 singles per 1,000 people. It also records over 30 bars and pubs per 1,000 people, achieving a massive 9.58/10 social score – 60% higher than tenth spot Leicester (3.75/10).
Stoke-on-Trent ranks as the second best dating hotspot for single Brits, with a romance score of 8.96/10. With 267 singles and 30 bars and pubs per 1,000 people (scoring full marks for its social score – 10/10), odds are high for singles in this Staffordshire city.
In third place is Preston (8.95/10). The Lancashire city scores the highest possible rating (10/10) for dating app users with 418 singles per 1,000 people. Although neighbouring city, Manchester, is less than 1 hour away, Preston has 37% more bars and pubs per 1,000 people, making your chances a lot higher to find love here.

- For each city, match.com was used to obtain counts of singles in an age range of 18-40.
- For each city, Kaggle was used to count the number of bars and pubs in each city.
- Population sizes, match.com results and the count of bars and pubs were used to calculate a ranking list of overall best cities for finding love this Valentine’s Day. .
- For each city, a percentrank score was calculated for:
- Number of users on match.com of the desired gender who are interested in your gender per capita (e.g. number of males interested in females, and vice versa).
- Number of bars and pubs events per capita.
- Finally each of the above percentranks were averaged to obtain a final dating hotspot score out of 10.
