Richmond Sixth Form College, hosted over 500 Year 11 students and their parents to showcase the facilities, excellent support and guidance, as well as the exceptional line-up of enrichment and extra-curricular programmes on offer. Teaching staff and 67 student ambassadors chatted to visitors, answered questions and highlighted the many reasons to choose Richmond Sixth Form to gain outstanding academic success in post-16 studies.

Ben Clarke and Daisy Cooil, Headboy and Headgirl, set the scene with two introductory talks to capacity audiences.  Ben commented: “As the Sixth Form is attached to a large school, it can create a culture of student leadership, mentoring and co-operation that no other college can. Another great benefit of the Sixth Form is the intimate learning environment it offers, meaning the teachers and staff know us well and are always able to support us positively.”  Daisy went on to say: “Richmond Sixth Form is an extremely individual place to study with great opportunities to do extra activities outside and further to your studies. There’s an amazing team of staff who are skilled in helping students with careers advice, personal statement writing and university and apprenticeships applications. I can’t recommend it enough.”

Visitors were given an insight into life at the Sixth Form College, with opportunities to take part in a host of hands-on and interactive activities. These ranged from joining in dance and drama workshops to working out how a plasma  ball’s electromagnetic field can extend beyond the glass and cause a bulb to light up.  There were also multiple demonstrations across the many subject fields, including two students delicately dissecting rats!

Jenna Potter, Headteacher, said: “As a College committed to serving the local community, our vision is to provide the best-possible learning experiences and high-quality outcomes for the young people of this area. The sheer number of student ambassadors who jumped at the chance to volunteer this evening, and share their positive experiences, is testament to how much they value the College, in terms of its high-standard of teaching and academic success, coupled with the wide variety of other life skills and opportunities offered to them.”

The open evening proved that it is a great way to get a sense of what life is like and visitors left with an understanding of the College’s unique atmosphere, fabulous facilities and a taste of what great things lie in store for post-16 studies.
