A Jolly Halloween…

One of Newcastle’s most recent additions to the eating and drinking scene, The Jolly Fisherman on The Quay is stepping up to the plate this Halloween with a selection of terrifyingly tantalising cocktails available for customers to get in the wicked ‘spirit’ of things.

Hot on the heels of the venue’s newly launched happy hour – The Jolly Social, which is available Monday to Friday with selected drinks on offer throughout the evening; forget bobbing for apples, these bespoke one-time-only cocktails need to be on your list of things to try this Halloween.

Read on for tips on how to recreate your very own Halloween cocktail at home, courtesy of The Jolly’s bar staff:

Zombie

Not for the feint hearted, this aptly named and potent concoction is fruity one, which packs a punch. You’ll need the following ingredients for one serving:

12.5ml white rum

12.5ml dark rum

25ml apricot brandy

25ml pineapple juice

25ml orange juice

25ml lime juice

12.5ml gomme syrup

A dash of grenadine

Add all of the ingredients into a cocktail mixer with cubed ice and give it your best Tom Cruise pose, shaking vigorously. Strain into a tall highball glass with cubed ice and garnish with a pineapple wedge and serve.

Pumpkin Poison

Whatever your usual ‘poison’ might be, we dare you not to enjoy this rum-based number. The Jolly bar team prefer to use a local brand, but a standard brand will more than suffice. You’ll need the following ingredients for one serving:

37.5ml Alnwick Spiced Rum

12.5ml Jim Beam

12.5ml gomme syrup

25ml cinnamon gomme

25ml lime juice

50ml pumpkin puree

Add all of the above together into a cocktail shaker, strain into a wine glass and serve over ice. To achieve maximum ghoulish effect, add a few drops of black food colouring then garnish with a mint sprig and pumpkin balls. Enjoy!

Jolly Does Dracula

This fruity yet spooky looking cocktail is named after one of Halloween’s most feared characters for a reason! Do you dare try it… You’ll need the following ingredients for one serving:

50ml Sipsmith Damson Vodka

3 dashes of Angostura Orange Bitters

A dash of soda water

6 lime wedges

2 round sugar cubes

Half a passionfruit

1 blackberry

Muddle the lime wedges and sugar cubes together in a cocktail shaker and add the Orange Bitters and Damson Vodka, then fill with crushed ice. Shake together and strain into a round glass and top with crushed ice and a dash of soda water. Garnish with half a passionfruit and a blackberry.
