Two talented Capita engineers on North Tyneside are celebrating after gaining scholarships to help advance their careers.
Jack Graham, 18, and Jordan Larkin, 21 have both won scholarships through the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) QUEST scheme.
And their success means that Capita’s North Tyneside Partnership has held the scholarship for the last four years.
The scholarships, worth up to £1,500, are awarded to those who are committed to civil engineering and have the potential to excel. They also recognise a candidate’s leadership skills, aptitude for teamwork, ambition and initiative.
Jack, from South Shields, has been awarded a QUEST Technician Scholarship to help his work towards becoming an ICE Technician member (EngTech MICE).
Jack joined Capita in 2017 as an Apprentice Traffic Engineer and works in the Parking and Traffic team on the consultation, design and implementation of parking schemes.
He currently mentors a work experience student from George Stephenson High School in Killingworth for one day each week. Jack also recently helped deliver the ICE’s Bridges to Schools initiative held at John Spence High School in North Shields. It involved helping students to construct, cross and dismantle a 15-metre model of a cable-stayed bridge.
Jack said: “It feels fantastic to have been awarded the scholarship and be recognised by the ICE for my skills in engineering.
“I’m looking forward to going for my EngTech review in November and becoming professionally qualified by the end of 2018.”
Jordan, from Middlesbrough has been awarded a QUEST Technician Plus Scholarship in support of gaining Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status. She has previously been awarded a QUEST Technician Scholarship.
Jordan joined Capita in 2015 and is a Trainee Engineering Technician within the Traffic Engineering section of Capita Property and Infrastructure. During this time Jordan has divided her time between the Infrastructure and Traffic teams gaining experience in a wide-range of traffic, sustainable travel and major highways projects.
She has taken part in a variety of volunteering activities, including fundraising for The Prince’s Trust, and mentoring work placement students. She is also a member of the ICE Graduates and Students Committee.
Jordan said: “I was really pleased to have been successful in being awarded the Quest Technician Plus Scholarship. It is great that ICE recognise young professionals going through their studies and reward them financially.
“I am looking forward to completing my studies this year and progressing onto the BEng in Civil Engineering.”
Capita’s North Tyneside Partnership Director, Richard Carmichael, said: “This is excellent news for Jack and Jordan.
“As well as receiving financial support, this is a recognition of their abilities and potential.
“And it’s a sign of the calibre of young engineers within our Partnership that this is the fourth successive year that we have held scholarships.”
