The award-winning house builder, Ascent Homes, has commenced construction of its latest housing development situated in the heart of Cramlington.

The development of 19 homes, all for private sale, is being built on the site of the former St Paul’s Roman Catholic First School on Doddington Drive and previously an eyesore close to Cramlington’s thriving town centre.

Accessed through a purpose-built haul road, Ascent Homes in-house construction team will have no negative impact on the local community as construction works are ongoing.

Building on its success at developing sought after, high quality attractive homes, St Paul’s Place as the scheme is to be known, will create a cul-de-sac of three and four-bedroom semi-detached and detached properties.

Having evolved its property types based on popularity of design and layout and feedback from buyers, Ascent Homes will build three standard house types – the Primrose, Holly and Oak- appealing to a wide audience including first-time buyers and families as well as professionals looking to base themselves within easy reach of the train station.

Speaking about its latest scheme to break ground, Duncan Bowman, Development Director for Ascent Homes, said:

“We are looking forward to getting another housing development underway and I’m delighted that our we are now on-site commencing construction.”

Commenting on improving a brownfield site close to Cramlington town centre, Advance Northumberland’s Chair, Richard Wearmouth, added:

“Since the school’s closure the site had fallen into a state of disrepair and by demolishing the old buildings Ascent Homes has removed an eyesore and potential hazards for local people.  The development is adding more high-quality housing stock to the county and I look forward to seeing work progressing and the first residents moving in.”

In readiness for launching the development for sale, Ascent Homes is currently working with planners to gain consent to site its marketing suite on the former Library car park and anticipate this happening later this year.
