Brough Primary celebrates excellent SATs results

Brough Primary School, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria, is celebrating excellent results in its KS1 and KS2 Standard Attainment Tests (SATs) which this year were  higher than the national average in the maths, writing and reading elements of the tests!

Maths results in particular were exceptional with 100% of KS2 Year 6 pupils working at the expected standard or higher – a 40% improvement on last year’s results – and 21% higher than the national average. KS1 SATs results were cause for celebration too, with 89% of pupils working at the expected standard – a 32% improvement on last year’s results.

Headteacher Phil Cooper and his team are delighted, with Mr Cooper commenting, “These results bear testament to the hard work and focus of our pupils and teachers alike. Brough – graded as ‘Requires Improvement’ in 2018 by Ofsted – is clearly on an upward trajectory!

“The consistent hard work and enthusiasm for learning has clearly had a very positive impact! I am a firm believer in skills for life, and while SATs results are not everything, they are effective for embedding some really important skills that the children will take into the future – skills that will help them to develop into well equipped and confident learners for life.

“18 months ago I purchased a subscription to Mathletics, 3P Learning’s game-based challenge and reward software for maths – a platform that has played an instrumental role in improving engagement and results. Our pupils love the competitive element in Mathletics, and are on it all the time – even at home!”

This is only just the beginning for Brough Primary School. Phil Cooper and his excellent team of teachers are on a “mission to improve the school” and clearly progressing towards a Good Ofsted rating. They are delighted!
