  • Leading premium performance exhaust specialist says modern classic owners now favour the best of both worlds, marking a shift away from traditional aftermarket exhausts
  • Milltek Sport has developed a range of exhausts to offer customers perfectly judged, enhanced systems that remain in keeping with original designs
  • Modern classics from the early noughties – including the Audi RS4 and Honda Civic Type R EP3 – are also now joining established models such as the Peugeot 205 GTi and Mk1 and Mk2 Golf GTI

Milltek Sport says tastes are changing in the modern classic aftermarket, as more customers than ever are choosing premium performance exhausts that conform with the design of factory systems.

The company has seen an increased demand for its Milltek Classic range, developed to enhance the performance and engine note of a wide range of modern classics while matching their iconic original styling.

The price of iconic classics from the ‘80s and ‘90s – such as the Audi Ur-quattro, BMW M3 (E30/E36), Peugeot 205 GTI and Volkswagen Golf GTI (Mk1/Mk2) – have seen huge appreciation over the last decade. As the value and rarity of these performance heroes increases, Milltek Sport says owners are seeking exhaust systems which offer improvement without compromise.

Milltek Classic systems offer the best of both worlds, with enhanced performance, quality, durability and sound. The design and development process begins with the original ‘OEM’ system, with engineers identifying weaknesses and restrictions before beginning the performance improvement testing process – with the result known as ‘OEM+’.

Newer generations of cars are now joining the Milltek Classic range, including the Audi RS4 (B5), Audi TT (Mk1), Honda Civic Type R (EP3), Mitsubishi Evo (VII/VIII), Subaru Impreza and the Porsche 911 (996/997). The company predicts more owners will be switching to OEM+ systems following strong initial demand, as interest grows in the modern classic market.

Steve Pound, Managing Director of Milltek Sport, said: “As a business made up of car enthusiasts, we’ve seen for ourselves the changes in taste and style over the last decade. While we believe customers will always have a desire for modification, we’re now seeing that they want the best of both. The most exciting cars from the ‘90s and early ’00s are also now extremely desirable – the latest Milltek Classic range has been designed to match them perfectly.”

Milltek Sport has recently opened a brand-new facility in Alcoa, Tennessee, as part of a major $10.5m, five-year strategic expansion in the USA. Its flagship UK site is also growing, with the opening of a new £2.5m Advanced Manufacturing Facility and R&D Centre announced earlier this year.
