UNSUNG – and often unidentified – heroes of our community are to be celebrated in Middlesbrough next week.
Carers Week 2017 is taking place from Monday, June 12 to Sunday, June 18, and Middlesbrough Council and other local organisations are taking the opportunity to raise awareness of carers and the contribution they make to families and communities.
This year the campaign will focus on building Carer Friendly Communities which support carers to look after their loved ones while recognising they have needs of their own.
Many people don’t see themselves as carers when in fact they are, even if they consider themselves a wife or husband, parent, grandparent, partner, child, friend of neighbour.
To help people better understand who is a carer and how the role is defined, information stands will be placed in Middlesbrough during Carers Week on:
- Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday June 12-14 – 10am-4pm in the Dundas Arcade, Middlesbrough
- Thursday, June 15 – 3pm-6pm at James Cook Hospital (in the Atrium).
A drop in carers’ information event will also take place on Saturday, June 17 at Bar Zero on Linthorpe Road from 11am-3pm which will focus on helping people affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use.
Other organisations in Middlesbrough including Thirteen, CAB, Mind and local pharmacies will also be raising awareness of carers and their needs during Carers Week.
