Fans of fictional Yorkshire detective Alan Banks are being offered the chance to celebrate 30 years of murder and intrigue at a special event at Darlington Library next month (July).

Peter Robinson, the number one best-selling author of the DCI Banks novels, will be at Crown Street Library to talk about his work and his latest book “Sleeping in the ground”

Born in Yorkshire, Peter gained a BA Honours in English Literature at the University of Leeds before going to Canada where he took an MA in English and Creative Writing at the University of Windsor and then a PhD in English at York University.

He has taught at a number of Toronto community colleges and universities and also served as Writer-in-Residence at the University of Windsor, 1992-93.

His first novel, Gallows View, in 1987 introduced Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks who has now featured in more than 25 novels, short stories and novellas; and has been immortalised by actor Stephen Tomkinson in the popular ‘DCI Banks’ television series.

Peter now divides his time between Toronto and Richmond.

‘An afternoon with Peter Robinson’ will be at Darlington’s Crown Street Library on Tuesday 18 July, from 3pm. Tickets cost £5, payable on booking.
