County Durham Business Man opens first retail outlet following successful launch of Firewood business in 2012.
Having been born into a farming family, David Scaman, has always had a keen interest in the natural environment. It was this interest that led the 52-year-old to establish GD Logs in 2012. The firm specialises in home delivery Kiln Dried Firewood throughout the North East.
“The idea behind GD Logs was born out of a frustration at the lack of consistent supply of quality firewood together with an awareness of the growing interest in sustainable fuels. The success of the business has far exceeded our initial forecasts and we now boast a customer base in excess of 500 repeat home delivery clients. Its our commitment to quality which has not only contributed to our growth but has also allowed us to gain accreditation to Woodsure’s highly regarded Ready to Burn quality assurance scheme” said Scaman.
The firm now marks its latest milestone with the recent opening of their first retail showroom in Shiney Row, County Durham. The store, occupying a formally vacant retail unit, has created jobs for 3 local people. Not only stocking their range of Kiln dried firewood they are also retailing a highly efficient range of wood burning stoves and are offering advice to those considering the switch to sustainable heating.
“I’ve been overwhelmed with the initial interest and support we’ve received from the local community. Its fantastic to be able to advise people who have never considered sustainable heating before on how accessible it can be”
