Screen Shot 2015-07-13 at 15.23.10VISITORS to Stockton this weekend were left in a spin by the thrilling sights on show as part of the Stockton Cycling Festival 2015.

Hundreds of people, from across Stockton Borough and beyond, descended on Stockton’s Town Centre and Riverside to join in a full weekend of cycling fun.

Elite racing was the key spectacle on Friday evening (10 July) as world class cyclists, including double Olympic gold medallist Ed Clancy, raced around the regenerated and historic High Street.

The Stockton Endeavour Sportive was the highlight on Saturday (11 July) as riders set out from the Riverside across the Borough and out into the North Yorkshire Moors.

Sunday’s family day offered budding cyclists of all ages a challenge with the family event RideStockton alongside a variety of entertainment in the specially created events village.

Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “Once again, the Stockton Cycling Festival has been a great success and I would like to thank everyone for their hard work in putting it together and for all those who competed or simply came along and enjoyed themselves.

“I encourage anyone who has been inspired by what they have seen this year to get on their bike and think about joining in one of the many great cycling events on offer next year.

“This year’s festival has shown the appetite for cycling in Stockton and now we look ahead with great excitement to the arrival of the British Cycling National Road Race Championships in June 2016.”
