The Bannatyne health club in Darlington’s senior fitness advisor, Gillian Clason, has been invited to the House of Commons in recognition of her amazing fundraising efforts for the charity Children with Cancer UK.

Gillian attended the landmark Precision Medicine launch with representatives from the charity, which is providing £1.5m to fund the initial phase of a programme for rapid DNA sequencing for every UK child diagnosed with a solid tumour.

She has a long history of raising money for Children with Cancer UK, and has to date raised more than £100,000 by completing sporting challenges, including marathons and half marathons and several cycling challenges over the last seven years.

Gillian said: “Children with Cancer UK is a cause very close to my heart. I started fundraising for the charity after seeing first-hand the devastation cancer causes when a friend of mine lost a child to the illness.

“It was a privilege to attend the launch at the House of Commons and I am very proud that the money I have raised is going to support such a wonderful initiative, which will make such a difference to the lives of children diagnosed with cancer, and their families. Hopefully it will help save lives.”

Sue Stockdale, General Manager at Bannatyne Health Club & Spa in Darlington, said: “I am so proud of Gillian and all the work she has done to raise such a fantastic amount of money.

“She inspires her colleagues and our members and has galvanised many people to support her in her fundraising efforts.”
