Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Deadline nears for entries to North East’s Biggest Creative Industries Awards

Television and digital media made in the North East, Cumbria and the Borders will be showcased at a glittering ceremony in the New Year – and the deadline for entries closes on Friday October 27th.

The region’s production sector includes dramas such as ITV’s Vera and BBC’s Inspector George Gently, comedies including Hospital People, childrens’ series Wolfblood and The Dumping Ground and factual titles like Sky One’s The Force. And there are a growing number of production companies specialising in games, apps, animation, commercials and visual effects.

The Royal Television Society awards for the North East and Borders will be hosted by Sky News presenter Jayne Secker on Saturday February 24th 2018. The eighteen categories celebrate excellence in production across all platforms – from traditional TV such as documentaries, news and drama to on-line formats, animation and tech innovation.

Awards event chairman Graeme Thompson said: “The creative industries are the UK’s fastest-growing sector and this event is a brilliant opportunity for professionals in this part of the country to showcase their work.”

New categories for 2018 include Professional Excellence awards for Costume and Make-up, Graphics and Titling, and Animation and Games. There are broadcast categories for news, drama, current affairs and factual. And there are awards for productions commissioned for non-broadcast categories such as on-line and commercial.

Chair of judges Fahima Chowdhury said: “It is very easy to enter your work through our on-line portal. And our new categories mean it is more likely than ever before that you will find at least one that fits your specialism. But don’t delay because you only have until Friday night to register.”
