Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Screen Shot 2016-03-16 at 09.48.33The contents of one of the least favourite rooms in Northallerton’s former prison are up for sale.

Bids for the dental equipment left behind when the Ministry of Justice vacated the town centre site are now being taken.

Hambleton District Council has placed the dental chair, drill units and cupboards on ebay.

The authority bought the prison last year (2015) and has been working up redevelopment plans – which include the demolition of all but five listed buildings. The dental surgery is included in the healthcare wing.

“We understand the chair was re-upholstered shortly before the prison closed – and all the equipment has been newly installed,” said Council Leader, Councillor Mark Robson.

“It is all in excellent condition so we were surprised it was left behind. It is certainly one of the most unusual items we have had to sell – but we hope it can go to a good home.”

The equipment is logged under ‘dental chair 111937009655’ on ebay.co.uk. The council has put a reserve price of £1000 on it and hopes to see it sold within seven days. The buyer must dismantle and move the equipment themselves.
