Durham Markets has planned an extra special weekend of Markets in Durham City Centre from Good Friday through to Easter Monday, bringing the best from our region, as well as produce from much further afield.

The Continental Easter Market will run for four days from Friday 14th April to Monday 17th April, featuring stalls from around the world.  Visitors will be able to pick up authentic Spanish saucisson, fairtrade gifts from Marrakech, hand-blended Bangladeshi spice kits, French cheeses, Turkish Delight and much more.  The market will also feature a number of British speciality stalls including gifts created from sixpences, gourmet pies and chutneys.

Durham City’s regular Outdoor Market will run alongside its continental neighbours on Friday, Saturday and Monday, supplying regionally produced food and drink as well as gifts, homewares and clothing.  Additionally, Durham’s Market Hall will be open each day except Sunday.  Both Hodgson Fish and Teesdale Game & Poultry will open early at 9am on Good Friday to cater for Easter food shopping (entry via the lower ramp from the Market Place).

Colin Wilkes, Managing Director of Durham Markets, commented: “We’re thrilled to have a ‘super markets’ weekend in the centre of Durham for the Easter weekend.  It’s the perfect opportunity to  shop with your favourite local independent traders, and also discover something new.  We’d encourage everyone to make some time to explore all the markets, and make sure they don’t miss out!”

The Continental Easter Market will be open on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Day from 10am to 5pm, and from 10am to 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday.  The other markets will be open from 11am to 4pm on Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday, and from 9am to 4pmon Saturday (with the exception of Hodgson Fish and Teesdale Game & Poultry’s early opening on Good Friday).
