STOCKTON Town Centre is preparing to welcome some of the world’s best cyclists on Friday (10 July).
This year’s Stockton Cycling Festival will kick off with an evening of racing in the Town Centre.
Olympic stars and future medal contenders will all be racing through the Town Centre as part of the British Cycling Elite Circuit series.
Members of the public are invited to watch the fast and thrilling opening race which will see elite cyclists speed through the newly refurbished High Street.
The event begins at 6pm on Friday with the main race starting at 7pm and is free to watch.
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Norma Wilburn, said: “Come to Stockton Town Centre on Friday to experience the exhilarating atmosphere as top cyclists ride at pace through the town – it will take your breath away.
“Next year Stockton will host the British Cycling National Road Championships at the heart of the Cycling Festival and we want the people of Stockton to show cycling’s top flight what a great atmosphere we can generate.”

On Saturday, the Stockton Endeavour Sportive will see people of all ages and abilities cycle from the Riverside across the Borough and into the breath-taking North Yorkshire moors.
While on Sunday there will be an abundance of activities for the whole family including RideStockton, perfect for all ages and ability. Line up next to the professionals at 1pm and enjoy the fantastic new route taking you right through the newly refurbished High Street. Stockton Council staff will be talking to visitors about how they can get involved in next year’s British Cycling National Road Championships, as we finalise our discussions with the Tees Valley Community Foundation about an exciting grant scheme for 2016.
Anyone who pays the Event Village a visit will be able to watch the start and finish of the Grand Prix Road Race and join in the mass participation RideStockton family ride. There will also be a chance to watch as amateurs and professionals fly around the ASDA StreetVelodrome, see jaw dropping stunts or event try a disco-bike, balloon-blowing bike or balance bike!
