Stockton High Street will become a magical wonderland with festive log cabins lining the newly regenerated high street.
From Thursday 27 November until Sunday 30 December anyone visiting the town can peruse the log cabin village for a variety of gifts and edible treats ranging from candles, wood-turned crafts and decorations to sausages, warm-spiced mulled wine and speciality coffees.
Meanwhile, on the 27 and 28 November young people from schools across the Borough will be hosting stalls at the market. For the last month they have been developing a range of innovative, yet marketable, items to sell.
Younger visitors will also be able to post their Christmas lists and letters to Santa Claus in plenty of time for Christmas from the special post office which will be located in the log cabin village too.
Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Councillor Mike Smith, said: “Thanks to the regeneration of Stockton Town Centre we are able to host the Sparkles Christmas Market on the High Street for the first time.
“Not only will there be plenty of choice when it comes to finding that special Christmas gift the presence of the log cabin village, street theatre and a range of festive food and drink all at the heart of the town centre will create an extra special atmosphere.
“Whether you are shopping for Christmas presents or are looking for somewhere to entertain the whole family in the run up to Christmas Stockton really is worth a visit. Why not make a day or night of it and pop in to the many new shops and restaurants? Stockton’s new Enterprise Arcade is just a few metres away from the market’s log cabins as is Silver Street and the town’s yards which are home to many new independent shops, cafes and eateries that help Stockton to offer something very different from other towns and retail centres.”
Stockton Farmers’ Market will join the Sparkles fun on Saturday 29 November, with another tasty mix of great locally produced food, drink and Christmas gifts. Shoppers will find the Market right on the High Street, just outside The Sun Inn, opposite Marks & Spencer.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy a whole host of Christmas themed street theatre between Friday 28 and Sunday 30 November. The festive entertainment will also return on Saturday 6 December and Saturday 13 December.
Stockton Sparkles Market will be open on Thursday 27 November from 9am to 7.30pm, Friday 28 November and Saturday 29 November from9am to 6pm and Sunday 30 November between 10am and 4pm.
Parking is free after 3pm in all Stockton Council short stay car parks in Stockton Town Centre from 28 November until 31 January 2014.
