Free course sheds light on mental health

A free course is offering County Durham residents the chance to spot the early warning signs and better understand mental health.

‘Understanding Mental Health’ will take place from Wednesday, September 20 at Horden and Peterlee Rugby Club, in Eden Lane, Peterlee, and will focus on how to prevent harm and give learners the confidence to provide help when needed.

Being run by County Durham Housing Group, the five-week programme will also cover issues such as helping to increase the speed of recovery and stopping issues from becoming worse.

County Durham Housing Group Community Training Coordinator, Sean Robson, said: “Things are definitely improving, but mental health is still an area that suffers from stigma. By taking part, attendees will be able to identify ways to help others, provide advice and offer support.

“It will be a great way for anyone with an interest in mental health to find out more from an expert tutor.”

For more information on how to take part call Sean Robson on 0191 349 7753 or email training@cdhg.co.uk

This is the latest in a series of courses being offered by County Durham Housing Group. The training is free to all of the group’s tenants and anyone who is currently out of work living in the area.
