Rapid EV charging company goes live on Zap-Map’s payment service
National electric vehicle (EV) charging network GeniePoint is the latest to come online with Zap-Pay, the simple way to pay for EV charging across networks from within Zap-Map, the UK’s leading EV mapping service.
Zap-Map and EQUANS, the company that owns and runs the GeniePoint network, signed an agreement last year to include GeniePoint in the Zap-Pay partner network.
As of last week, GeniePoint – with its broad range of rapid and destination chargers at locations such as Morrisons and Premier Inn – is now fully up and running as an established Zap-Pay partner. The network is the fourth to come online with Zap-Pay – following Osprey, ESB Energy and char.gy.
The completed integration means that a total of more than 1,700 charging devices across the UK are currently Zap-Pay enabled. As well as being able to search for charge points, plan longer journeys, and share updates with other EV drivers, Zap-Map users can now pay quickly and easily for their EV charging on all four networks up and down the UK. More integrations and announcements around Zap-Pay are to follow over the coming weeks and months.
GeniePoint is currently the third-largest rapid charging network in the UK, excluding the Tesla network. It comprises around 800 charge points, including more than 500 rapid chargers in England, Scotland and Wales – and stretches from Dundee to Falmouth. The network has chargers at over 200 sites of supermarket chain Morrisons, and last year was appointed Whitbread’s EV charging partner to install EV chargers across their Premier Inn estate.
The simple way to pay for EV charging across networks from within the Zap-Map app, Zap-Pay was launched with a mission to include all the key charge point networks across the UK. As a single-app payment system that uses a credit or debit card to pay for charging, Zap-Pay avoids the hassle of using different payment methods across all the various networks.
The Zap-Pay service also includes a 24/7 multilingual helpdesk for all payment-related issues, which is provided by EVA Global – an international, leading managed services provider, specialised in the electric mobility industry.
With GeniePoint’s nationwide charging network now online with Zap-Pay, today’s announcement marks an important step towards simple, trouble-free charging for EV drivers across the UK.
Alex Earl, Commercial Director at Zap-Map, said:
“It’s great to see the GeniePoint network going live on Zap-Pay. Both teams have been working hard to get this over the line, so it’s fantastic to see the integration come to fruition.
“Not only is GeniePoint a valuable addition to the Zap-Pay partner network, but as a nationwide charging company with rapid and fast charge points at convenient locations, it will make paying for charging that much easier for Zap-Map users.
“We’ve seen usage of Zap-Pay increase significantly, especially since the summer, and I’m really looking forward to seeing this trend accelerate as GeniePoint comes online with Zap-Pay.”
Dee Humphries, Managing Director of EQUANS’ EV Solutions business, commented:
“At GeniePoint, our focus is always on making it as easy as possible for EV drivers to get a charge when they need it. That’s why we’ve been working hard on the integration with Zap-Pay – it’s another way that we are improving our experience for drivers and making charging easier.
“I’m excited for us to be going live with Zap-Pay because together we can provide a convenient and easy-to-use service for EV drivers across the country.”
All GeniePoint charge points in the UK have been Zap-Pay enabled and are available to use via the Zap-Map desktop and mobile apps.
