The region’s oldest independent children’s Charity, Children North East, has had its most successful Christmas Giving Tree appeal yet.
The Charity, which has been running its annual Giving Tree Appeal for over 15 years with records going back as far as 1894 of the giving of gifts, distributes toys, gifts and food to disadvantaged children, young people and families throughout the region. The items received by the charity, worth over £30,000, were all generously donated by local businesses and members of the public and went direct to the families supported by the charity.
Carol Taylor, Senior Fundraiser, Children North East, said: “Christmas plays a large role in family life and can be the cause of a lot of stress and anxiety for the families and young people we work with, but the Giving Tree Appeal alleviates some of the pressure on them. We will be 125 years old next year and the generosity of local companies and individuals has been overwhelming. We hope we can do more next year.
Our project workers have now passed on all the gifts to the families so are able to communicate to companies the real difference their help is making.”
Vicky Brockley, General Manager at Multi Packaging Solutions Ltd who provided a whole Christmas for a family, said: “No-one likes to think of any child waking up at Christmas without presents which is why MPS decided to support this appeal. It’s an appeal that resonates with us all, Christmas and children is something we can all relate to – whether it’s our own childhood, or our own children.
This is our second year of supporting Children North East’s Giving Tree Appeal and the workforce truly gets behind it. People can give as little or as much as they want, but combined it makes a real difference to the families we’ve supported. Children North East is a really great cause and one which the site is proud to be associated with.“
Next year the charity turns 125, and will be running a series of events to celebrate this milestone, with all information soon to be available on its website www.children-ne.org.uk.
