Would you like to help shape cancer advice and support services in County Durham?

The Macmillan Joining the Dots project is looking for people who have been affected by the disease and are willing to share their experiences.

As volunteer ‘coproducers’, they will have the opportunity to help improve access to support services and attend events and activities.

They will also help to monitor the progress of the project, take part in training sessions and attend a monthly group meeting.

Joining the Dots is a partnership between Durham County Council and Macmillan Cancer Support, which aims to improve access to cancer support services, with a focus on providing support to people based on their individual needs.

Kirsty Wilkinson, Joining the Dots project manager, said: “Everyone’s cancer journey is different, but by using their personal experience of cancer support services, whether good or bad, coproducers play an important role in helping us improve services for others.”

Volunteers will be appointed based on their personal experience and their knowledge of the practical, spiritual, emotional, relationship and lifestyle issues faced by people affected by cancer.

They should live in County Durham, have good interpersonal and communication skills and be willing to take part in training and attend events and activities.

They must also be willing to attend a monthly meeting lasting about two hours. Any expenses will be paid by the council.

For more information, contact the Joining the Dots team on 03000 267 345 or email JoiningtheDots@durham.gov.uk. You can also text 07826 902 672.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Thursday, 13 April.
