Residents living in the Murton area of County Durham are being invited to a public consultation event on plans for 47 new affordable homes in their community.

County Durham Housing Group wants views on plans to build 27 bungalows and 20 three-bed houses on land at Truro Road in Murton. Homes would be available for affordable rent and rent-to-buy respectively once completed.

The consultation event will take place on Thursday, 29 June at the Glebe Centre in Murton between 4pm and 6pm, with staff from County Durham Housing Group on hand to talk about the project and show local residents detailed plans around the proposal.

County Durham Housing Group Head of Development and Commercial Property, Kate Abson, said: “We understand the demand for a range of homes in the Murton area and want to hear what local people think about our proposals.

“Both the bungalows and houses will feature high levels of insulation, the latest heating systems and double glazing; all of which are expected to bring greater efficiencies when compared with older homes, particularly those in the private rented sector.

“And as well as delivering affordable homes in the places where they’re really needed, the development will provide new jobs during construction.”

The development forms part of an overall 297 home new build programme by the group between the Tyne and Tees across a three year period. By 2020, County Durham Housing Group will have invested £32m across 17 sites providing a significant boost to employment in the area.
