Ascent Homes, the housebuilding arm of Arch and the newest housebuilder in Northumberland, is really living up to its name after just two years in business.
Launching with a small team of four in March 2015, during the space of just 24 months, Ascent has created 17 management and support staff roles as well as 30 construction roles and employed four local apprentices.
Additionally, it has acquired nine sites throughout Northumberland and Tyneside, has achieved its strategic target of getting 200 homes planned or under development and has plans for future expansion over the next twelve months.
Indeed, Ascent Homes’ rapid progress and success was recently recognised at Northumberland Business Awards, which saw the team winning the ‘newcomer’ category which recognises business excellence and celebrates those businesses excelling in their fields and helping to boost the local economy.
The business is committed to operating sustainably, employing local labour whenever possible, developing local supply chains and creating jobs for local people.
Furthermore, as part of its philosophy towards building homes of quality, each Ascent home irrespective of size, value or location will share the same high level of unrivalled specification.
A varied mix of house types and developments is offered to all sectors of the market, each home appropriately designed to blend seamlessly with its location.
Ascent’s first site to come to market in April 2016 was Windsor View located in Newbiggin by the Sea. Offering a contemporary mix of 24 two, three and four bedroom homes in a stunning beachfront location, the development was released with customers queuing through the night for the opportunity to reserve. The homes are ambitious in design and have been planned to perfectly enhance their surroundings – in fact so much so, they have recently been shortlisted in the Residential category of the RICS awards which honours outstanding residential developments and their successful innovative design.
Closely followed to market was Plessey Green in Blyth, featuring 38 properties. Located right next to the golf course, it is proving a popular development with families and first time buyers alike.
Then the Maltings in Alnwick was launched – the first development to be unveiled as part of Ascent Homes’ luxury range. This is a listed former brewery and malt house built over four floors in three blocks and its multi-million pound refurbishment will provide 37 carefully designed one and two bedroom apartments and penthouses, combining original features and modern elements to create stunning homes in a breath-taking location.
Earlier in March, work on an ambitious development commenced in Ellington to regenerate and redevelop the former Ellington Colliery site, comprising 184 family homes in close proximity to the Druridge Bay coastline where purchasers can expect the usual high level of Ascent Homes’ specification.
With an ambitious land bank for further developments it is a remarkable start for the business. Its rapid expansion has been led by Duncan Bowman, development director, who is highly experienced in delivering all forms of residential and mixed use regeneration developments.
He said: “The last two years have certainly been hectic. We literally hit the ground running to become a new name in housebuilding in the North East. Our aim has always been to be passionate about building high quality homes in striking locations throughout the region and offering buyers an unrivalled level of specification.
“We are also keen to build capacity in the local communities we serve which includes sustainable job creation and working with local companies to support regeneration or stimulate the economy.
“We have ambitious plans for the future and are actively looking at a number of other sites – not just in Northumberland where we are based – but also further afield. I believe our culture, operational model and expertise as a team of industry experts in our own right combine to put us on a par with the established names in housebuilding – so you can expect to hear much more from Ascent Homes in the year ahead.”
Ascent Homes also has sites acquired and/or planning applications in progress for further new homes in Blyth, Newbiggin, Ponteland, Alnwick, Jesmond, Wallsend, Bebside and Cramlington.
