To celebrate this year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio, Active Sunderland will be hosting the City Centre Festival on Saturday 30th July, 12.00 – 4.00pm.
Sites across the city centre will be taken over by community sports clubs and organisations who will run taster sessions and demonstrations for all the family. Activities will include: walking, hockey, cricket, table tennis, football, trampoline, athletics, cheerleading, golf, karate, dance, aerial skills, climbing wall, pilates, rowing, tennis, rugby and boxing.
Councillor John Kelly, Sunderland City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture said: “There really is something for everyone at these events and it promises to be a great day of activity and fun for the whole family.
“This is a fantastic free opportunity for anyone to have a go at something new. I encourage everyone to come along and give it a go.”
A sticker will be given for each sport or activity taken part in. Anyone collecting six stickers can be entered into a FREE prize draw. There will also be an Active Sunderland medal for everyone taking part.
The activities will take place at Mowbray Park, The Bridges, Museum and Winter Gardens, Crowtree Grass, Keel Square, The Minster and Town Green.
Bill Leach, Head Coach at Apollo Trampoline Club said: “We delivered activities at last year’s event and are really looking forward to being involved again this year. The City Centre and Area Sports Festivals are a great opportunity for us to showcase what the club has to offer and encourage people to try it for themselves”.
All of the activities are free and everyone, of all ages and abilities is encouraged to come along and have a go.
