Kings Priory School is top of the class for GCSE performance

After less than four years since it opened a Tynemouth school has triumphed in its latest GCSE performance.

Kings Priory School placed joint-third in the region for its GCSE results, with only independent schools in Newcastle and Durham surpassing the school’s performance in 2016.

The school achieved an impressive score of 61.3 in the latest Government tables which were released last week.

The results are based on the new ‘Attainment 8’ measure which is calculated by assigning a numbered value to GCSE grades. There is extra sway given to achievement in subjects like Maths.

The latest announcement comes after an impressive 91% of pupils at Kings Priory School achieved at least 5 A*-C GCSEs including Maths and English in the summer.

Amongst other top headlines 96% of pupils received an A*-C in both Mathematics and English.

As well as being the joint-best attainment in the region this also represents the school’s best ever GCSE exam results to date.

This signifies a tremendous achievement for a school only in its fourth year as an academy which provides first class education to over 1300 pupils aged 4 to 18.

Philip Sanderson, Principal of Kings Priory School, said: “This is a splendid achievement by all of our pupils and staff.”

This does not happen by accident, however. Dedication, real focussed work, with a deep understanding of our pupils has certainly been a successful formula.”

“This is of course in line our school values of respect, celebrating differences and helping others to achieve everything they can.”

Kings Priory School opened in September 2013 as a result of a merger between The King’s School, a thriving independent school and Priory Primary School, an outstanding community primary school.

The school is an inclusive, non-fee paying academy with excellent teachers, motivated pupils, a family environment and a commitment to educating the whole child both in and outside of the classroom.

It is part of the Woodard Academies Trust, a group of schools across England which share an educational vision which empowers, celebrates diversity and adds value to a child’s development.

The academies all provide high academic standards, setting themselves apart by offering an unrivalled effective and supportive environment based on Christian values, within which each individual is valued and encouraged to give their very best.
