Wellington Square shopping centre, in Stockton-on-Tees, has been given a makeover by local school children!
The centre management team at the shopping centre invited primary schools across the borough to draw ‘What Makes You Happy’ and their artwork has been used to create bunting and window displays in the centre to make shoppers smile.
There were over 800 entries with four of the winning designs transformed into bunting which is on display throughout the centre. These designs were created by Arianna Fernandes, 8, Elliot Walker, 9 from St John the Baptist Primary, Lexi Pugh, 11 from Roseberry Primary and Olly Casey, 10 from Holy Trinity Rosehill.
A further nine drawings have been created into windows vinyls that are on display in the centre car park. These were designed by Alice Bainbridge, 11, Daisy Danks, 11, Grace Malone, 9 from Holy Trinity Rosehill. Anastacia Hopewell, 9 and Emilie Wilkinson, 9 from St John the Baptist Primary. June Burton, 6 from Kirkby & Great Broughton Primary, Lola Pickering, 5, The Glebe, Louie Campbell, 14 and Stacey Cartwright from local community group Northern Stars.
Chantal Taylor, Marketing Manager, said “We wanted to give the centre a splash of colour to make it bright and cheerful when customers visit, and what better way to put a smile on visitors faces than displaying artwork created by children in the community.
“We are delighted with the outcome, it was very difficult choosing just 13 winners when we had so many wonderful and creative entries. All of the children had clearly taken great pride in their designs. Hopefully our visitors will be sharing the smile they give to me each day when I see them around the centre.” said Chantal.
