LOTTERY WINNER AND IT FIRM PROVIDE TABLET LIFELINE

A Teesside-based National Lottery winner has joined forces with a leading commercial IT firm to provide more than 60 tablets that will provide a “lifeline” for those in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cornerstone Business Solutions has provided the Samsung devices at cost to the anonymous Lottery winner who is distributing them across Teesside and surrounding areas.

Staff at the Stockton-based firm has also spent hours configuring the tablets ready for easy use during the coronavirus crisis.

They have been distributed to residential homes, Macmillan nurses, women’s refuges, children with carer roles, nurses and charity workers who are carrying out community work for those in isolation.

Cornerstone managing director Chris Petty agreed to support the generous Lottery winner’s charitable efforts after an approach from Tees Business co-editor Dave Allan.

“I was massively impressed that a Lottery winner wanted to go out of their way to help others like this,” said Chris. “Their generosity to provide tablets to help frontline workers and those in need stay in contact during these difficult times was inspiring.

“We haven’t made any profit from the tablets and our staff have spent quite a few hours preparing them ready for use, but it’s important for me and my fellow directors that Cornerstone does what it can to help others during the coronavirus crisis.

“We’re proud to be supporting frontline workers and those most vulnerable in the community.”

The anonymous Lottery winner said: “Providing a tablet is a small gesture of support on our part but a crucial lifeline to those in isolation. Our thanks to Cornerstone for their generous help in making this happen.”

Along with several other local companies, Cornerstone also donated funds to Teesside Philanthropic Foundation towards similar iPad Mini devices that have been distributed to local hospitals and hospices to allow Covid patients to stay in contact with loved ones.
