Families from the North East are being invited to enjoy an afternoon of Mad Hatters and mascots this weekend.
On Saturday (June 20) The Beach House bistro, Roker, is celebrating the 150th birthday of Alice in Wonderland with a series of free activities for all ages.
This includes the chance to make themed arts and crafts with Alice herself, as well as a special White Rabbit treasure hunt around Roker Beach.
The hunt, hosted by SAFC mascots Samson and Delilah, will end back at The Beach House, where participants will be in the running for a host of top prizes.
This will be the first in a series of themed events marking the anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, with The Beach House also hosting a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party (July 18), a cupcake decorating competition (July 20), summer games (August 13) and another treasure hunt (August 27).
Amanda Owen, Manager at The Beach House, said: “Lewis Carroll was a regular visitor to the Sunderland area and the city has been linked with Alice in Wonderland for a very long time.
“Saturday’s event is the start of our tribute to the story, and its author, and we hope generations of readers will come along and take part.”
The Beach House bistro, operated by 1879 Events Management, is open daily from 10am until 5pm, serving a range of main meals, snacks, desserts and signature ice cream sundaes.
The Alice in Wonderland activities will run from noon until 3pm on Saturday and are free for all ages.
