Terminal illness charity, Marie Curie, has opened a new shop in Gosforth. The shop, at 143 High Street, was officially opened by Marie Curie Nurse Emma Pattison and Louise Love, the shop manager, who cut a ribbon to mark the occasion.

The new shop incorporates a boutique section of high-end clothes and accessories from designer brands, all selling at a fraction of their original price. The shop is also stocked with pre-loved clothing, accessories and homewares kindly donated by local supporters.

Every purchase made in the shop will help Marie Curie support people living with a terminal illness and their loved ones, with every £20 raised helping to provide an hour of expert nursing care.

Emma Pattison, Marie Curie Nurse at Newcastle hospice and Gosforth resident, said: “The shop looks amazing, they’ve really done a fantastic job with it! I’ve had a quick browse and I’ve got my eye on a few items myself!

“My colleagues and I wouldn’t be able to do our jobs without public support, so every purchase really does make a massive difference.”

Louise Love, Marie Curie Shop Manager said: “We’re very excited to have opened the shop, and we hope everyone in Gosforth will visit and find themselves a bargain.

“We want the shop to be a place where people can not only come to pick up clothing, accessories and homeware items but also connect with the charity while learning more about how we care for local people living with a terminal illness and their families.”

The charity is urging shoppers to visit the new store as all funds raised will help provide services such as the free information and support line which helped more than 27,000 people across Newcastle last year.

Items sold in the shop will also help support Marie Curie’s nine hospices, including the Marie Curie Hospice, Newcastle in Elswick and will help fund research and campaigns to improve end of life care across the country.

Marie Curie also hope the shop will act as an information hub, to keep the public up-to-date with fundraising campaigns and opportunities to volunteer.
