Provisional statistics show that more people than ever are doing an apprenticeship with strong growth in the number of higher apprenticeships.
The provisional figures show that 2.38 million apprenticeships were delivered in the last parliament. The government is now committed to the target of delivering 3 million apprenticeships by 2020.
The figures also reveal that more than 19,200 people started a traineeship in the last academic year, a strong increase on the previous year. Traineeships provide the experience and work skills to progress into an apprenticeship or other job.
In response to the statistics, the Department for Business Innovation and Skills has published a press release.
Further Education and Skills statistics have also been published.
