Malvern, 24 April 2020

The Morgan Motor Company is supporting the coronavirus relief effort with the donation of an example of its all-new Plus Four to the BBC’s The Big Night In. The car featured as the final prize in the appeal, which aired at 7pm on Thursday 23 April. The prize draw is open to anyone aged 18 or over, and runs until 2pm on 30 April, by which time a total figure of funds raised will be available to media.

Please visit here for more information and instructions on how you can enter and have the chance to make a £10 voluntary donation.

‘The Big Night In’ appeal saw the BBC’s biggest charitable partners, Comic Relief and BBC Children in Need, join forces for the very first time with a live star-studded show to help raise funds and celebrate acts of kindness. The show aimed to unite the nation with an evening of incredible entertainment and stories of those going the extra mile to support their communities in these troubled times.

The money raised through the Morgan Plus Four prize (worth £62,995 before options) will be split between Comic Relief and Children in Need and will go on to support a variety of charities and projects in the UK, so they can continue to provide vital emergency support to those affected by the current crisis. This includes making sure people are safe from harm, mentally healthy and with access to food, warmth and shelter; as well as helping people stay connected, active and positive through these extraordinary times.

The lucky winner of the Plus Four will also have the opportunity to choose the exact specification of the car alongside Morgan’s renowned team of designers. As with any Morgan, the possibilities are almost limitless – there are more than 40,000 paint colours, as well as wide selection of wheels, interior materials and accessories. The winner, as well as their selected friends and family, will also be invited to visit the company’s famous factory in Malvern, Worcestershire, for a private tour to see exactly how a Morgan is handcrafted by its skilled craftsmen and women once current social distancing restrictions are lifted. In addition, Morgan will pay towards the winner’s first year of tax and insurance on the car, along with servicing for two years, allowing them to enjoy to car without any further costs, except fuel.

The Plus Four was chosen by Morgan as the perfect model to donate as a prize for this appeal. Not only is it the company’s newest model, but also one of its most engaging to drive and historically significant. The car replaces the Plus 4, which started production in 1950, but features an all new design – in fact only 3% of parts are shared with the outgoing car. Based on the CX-Generation bonded aluminium platform, which is both lightweight and supremely rigid, it offers breath-taking handling. Thanks to its 255 bhp BMW 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine, it can accelerate from 0-62 mph (100 kph) in from 4.8 seconds, onto a top speed of 149 mph (240 kph). As part of the specification process, the prize winner will be able to choose to have their Plus Four with either its six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox. The Plus Four might be effortlessly powerful, but also brings new levels of efficiency, with a 30% decrease in CO2 emissions compared to the outgoing Morgan Roadster, while fuel economy is rated at up to 40 mpg (7.0 l/100 km) combined (WLTP).

Steve Morris, Chairman and CEO of Morgan Motor Company, said: “We are all aware of the devastating impact the current situation is having around the world, at every level of society. On behalf of the Morgan Motor Company, I am particularly thankful to all of the key workers around the world who continue to keep our communities going. I’m proud that we are able to support the global relief effort, as part of BBC’s “The Big Night In”, with the donation of a brand new Morgan Plus Four. Any Morgan sports car is unique and desirable, and we hope that by offering a new Plus Four as a prize, we will be able to raise significantly more funds towards the global relief effort, than the value of the car itself.”
