National Adoption Week 2015: Too old at 4?

Redcar_and_Cleveland_Borough_CouncilFor National Adoption Week 2015, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council is informing residents of its adoption services and asking people to consider becoming an adoptive parent.

National Adoption Week takes place between 19 and 25 October 2015, and the theme this year is “too old at 4?” – emphasising the need of adoptive parents for older children.

The council currently places approximately 10 to 15 children into adoptive homes every year, and is seeking to recruit more adopters, particularly for sibling groups and older children.

Adoption provides permanent homes for children who, through no fault of their own, are not able to live with their own family.

Most of the children who are waiting to be adopted will have been removed from their parents through the court system.

Cllr Craig Hannaway, cabinet member for children at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council said:

“We are pleased to be raising awareness of our services during Adoption Week and highlighting the plight of vulnerable children to help them find forever families.

“We really need to recruit adopters for our older children and sibling groups, as there is a shortage of adoptive parents coming forward for these children.

“Please call our team if you are at all interested in becoming an adoptive parent.”

If you would like to speak to the Adoption team at the council please call 01642 771500 or drop in for a chat in the Adoption Office at Seafield House, Kirkleatham Street, Redcar, Yorkshire, TS10 1SP.
