North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Screen Shot 2015-10-08 at 15.38.52A long-standing national charity has moved into Business Central Darlington, with plans to expand.

Dyslexia Action, which has announced its office move during Dyslexia Awareness Week (5 – 11 October), has added Jennifer Parker as dyslexia and literacy specialist to its five-strong Darlington team, as part of its steady growth strategy.

The charity, which has over 10 employees in the North East and 371 UK-wide, provides support services for those affected by the learning disability dyslexia, including advice, assessment and screening, tuition and courses.

Speaking about the expansion, Kay Bowes, who has recently been promoted to area manager, said: “We’re confident Dyslexia Action will thrive and grow here at Business Central.

“The location is perfect for clients to access our learning centre and the facilities on offer are excellent, we are already planning on using the meeting rooms for our awareness sessions.”

Ambassadors for Dyslexia Action include Mollie King, of the British girl group The Saturdays, Zoë Wanamaker, American-born English actress and Lord Davies of Abersoch, CBE.

Vanessa Wood, Business Central centre manager, added: “It is fantastic to welcome a national charity to our centre. These last six months have been outstanding and we are proud to say we already have 20 companies who call Business Central home. Darlington really is the place to be!”

Business Central is located in the Central Park Enterprise Zone, Darlington. The North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) is working with Darlington Borough Council and the £6.6 million project has been supported with funding from the European Regional Development Fund and the Homes and Communities Agency.

As well as Dyslexia Action, Business Central Darlington, which opened earlier this year, has also recently welcomed Stepping Stones and Elamb.
