Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

New bar extension creates job opportunities

Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 14.09.41A POPULAR city centre bar is having to rapidly ramp up its recruitment drive to cope with demand following the launch of its new extension.

Barluga on Grey Street , Newcastle, opened its doors to the new outside terrace area in time for the bank holiday last month and its popularity has resulted in the creation of more job opportunities.

As part of leisure company Vaulkhard Group’s £4 million development project across a number of its venues, the 80sq ft. terrace extension has provided Barluga with an additional dining and drinking area, with capacity to seat 75 people, compared to just 16 before its creation.

Director of Vaulkhard Group, Ollie Vaulkhard, said: “We have been delighted with the support we have received from the public and since opening, we have welcomed hundreds of guests old and new.

“The uptake in demand and footfall has meant that we can focus on providing more jobs in the region, which is fantastic so soon after our investment.”

The £180,000 oasis-style garden terrace comprises an additional outdoor dining and drinking area complete with umbrellas, heated seats and BBQ.

He continued: “In just 16 weeks we were able to complete a well needed outside space in time for summer. The previous terrace was always known as a sun trap and was always full when the weather was fine, so the new terrace opens up the space for nine months of the year and to a much greater number of customers. It is our tranquil oasis in the heart of a bustling city.”

The bar on the mezzanine also provides a vast array of drinks and cocktails including Newcastle Gin which is currently distilled at Newcastle’s first gin distillery, bar and eatery, Bealim House.

“It is a very exciting year for us after the success of the re-launch of Bealim House last year. The projects are coming thick and fast and it’s fantastic to be creative once again.  Our biggest challenge now is finding high calibre staff to join our teams. The growing economy is clearly having a positive effect on the jobs market,” he said.

The next development plans for Vaulkhard Group will include the refurbishment of popular night haunt Perdu due later this summer and the expansion of its Central Bean coffee shops with a new one due to open in Sheffield on the 16th June.
