Two new businesses opening at the Dundas Indoor Market are certain to put a smile on your face.

For the last 15 years Shaun Chapman has been helping Teessiders have a good time. He supplies discos, karaoke, photo booths and room decorations and is now opening a one stop party shop.

Thirty-three-year-old Shaun from Middlesbrough is a close friend and colleague of Angela Knowles, who ran the highly popular Angie’s Party Den in the market. For personal reasons Angela has sold her business to Shaun, who is re-branding the shop First Choice Parties and Occasions.

“It’s got everything Angie sold – and a bit more,” said Shaun. “People always want to mark special occasions and we sell anything to do with parties – room decorations, balloons, banners.”

First Choice Parties and Occasions also offers a special wedding service. “I got married three years ago and I know the stress of it, particularly if you are dealing with different suppliers all over the place. I offer peace of mind. Come to me – it’s done,” said Shaun.

“We provide everything a wedding needs: invitations, room decorations, chair covers, a disco.  I can supply anything – I just can’t marry you!”

Also opening at Dundas this month is Collections by Michelle. It is run by Michelle Rawlings who has a wealth of experience working in retail and looking after customers.  Michelle was an assistant manager for Claire’s Accessories and has been a hotel receptionist for the past eight years.

“It sells make-up and gift boxes and anything you can buy in a girl’s boutique,” said Michelle, who is determined to help women of all ages feel good when they go out: “I just wanted somewhere people could go that was affordable.”

Collections by Michelle already trades online and Michelle is hopeful of a busy few months at Dundas with the end of the school holidays and the build up to Christmas.

Michelle and Shaun are benefitting from the generous introductory offers and assistance provided by the market to help new businesses get established.

“We are very proud of the scheme which has helped so many independent traders build the foundations of their business,” said market manager David Harris. “The first few months can be tough for any type of business.  We help so they can focus on providing a fantastic service for their customers.”
