Screen Shot 2016-04-06 at 15.12.22A site at the heart of Gosforth, Newcastle, that has remained derelict for more than 15 years, is shortly to be brought back to life should plans for a proposed new health scheme be given the green light by planners.

Malhotra Group PLC, a large care, leisure and property group based in Newcastle, has entered into a joint venture with The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to develop the site into a large, modern and purpose built ‘Polyclinic.’

The new health scheme will provide state of the art diagnostic facilities, treatment rooms, outpatient consultation rooms and GP surgeries, along with ancillary shops and services and a community health hub.

The proposed scheme signifies a major investment for both partners and, once completed, the site will provide jobs for up to 200 people.

Consultation with local community representatives will take place during April before the full planning application is submitted to Newcastle City Council. Further details will follow as part of the consultation process.

The site, at Salters Road, was formerly occupied by Sanderson Hospital having been built in 1897 as a home for destitute and crippled children before being more latterly occupied as a care facility for the elderly.
