The North East’s largest building society has been named the UK’s “Best Regional Building Society” at the national What Mortgage awards for the second year in a row.
Newcastle Building Society was chosen ‘Best Regional Building Society’ in a public vote, and also received highly commended in the “Best Fixed Rate Lender” and “Best Building Society Customer Service” categories.
Now in its 25th year, the What Mortgage Awards recognise and reward the best businesses in the UK’s mortgage and financial markets.
Stuart Miller, customer director at Newcastle Building Society, said: “We’re thrilled to have been recognised as the UK’s Best Regional Building Society for the second year in a row. It’s a true testament to the teams across our Society and how hard they work to ensure our customers and brokers receive a fantastic experience.”
Newcastle Building Society is the region’s biggest building society and the ninth largest in the UK.
The Society employs more than 1,000 staff, the majority of which are located in its Newcastle and North Tyneside head office centres, and also has a comprehensive branch network across its heartland area of North East England and Cumbria.
Dedicated to a strong presence on the high street, the Society has committed to refurbishing or relocating its 28-strong branch network by the end of 2020.
The Society’s gross residential lending increased by 7.8% to £535m last year, and it helped more than 1,000 first time buyers onto the property ladder in 2017.
