North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

As we move further into November, the North East of England will shift into a more unsettled pattern on Tuesday 4 November 2025, with increased rainfall, cloud cover, and a slightly higher price tag on the thermometer. While the day won’t be a washout, it will mark a return to the wetter side of autumn — and that means some adjustments for travel, outdoor activity and general comfort.

🌧 General Outlook

  • Early morning: Rain likely in many parts of the region. According to the forecast for the North East, rain is expected from around 07:00 with temperatures in the ball-park of 13-15 °C early on.

  • Midday/afternoon: Cloud remains dominant; showers or longer spells of rain possible especially later in the afternoon (12:00-16:00). Temperatures may reach 15-16 °C in more sheltered or urban zones.

  • Evening/night: Rain tends to linger or re-develop especially in the west/coastal parts. Nighttime lows around 12-13 °C in many places; inland valleys may drop a little lower.

In short: Tuesday brings a milder but wetter feel compared with more settled days earlier. Light rain, cloud and damp underfoot will be the theme rather than bright sunshine.

🏙 Regional Breakdown

Tyne & Wear (Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, North/South Tyneside)

  • Morning will kick off with steady rain or heavy drizzle.

  • The best chance of the day for relative calm is mid-morning into early afternoon, though cloud lingers heavily.

  • Evening: Rain likely returns, especially around the coast and the metro edges.

  • Highest temps around 15-16°C; wind is moderate, making it feel damp.

County Durham & Tees Valley (Durham, Darlington, Stockton, Middlesbrough)

  • A wet start with rain expected before 9 am.

  • Afternoon highs around 15°C, but the dampness and cloud make it feel cooler.

  • Later in the day, expect rain returning or turning heavier in spots.

Northumberland Coast & Uplands (Alnwick, Bamburgh, Kielder, Hexham)

  • Coastal fringe likely sees earlier rain; upland areas may hold off a little but expect cloud and showers.

  • Uplands cooler: maybe highs nearer 13-14°C in exposed terrain.

  • Showers likely later in the day; visibility may suffer in higher ground.

General Contrast: Coastal vs Inland

  • Coastal zones: Feel milder, but wetter and more wind-exposed. Rain earlier and heavier in some spells.

  • Inland valleys: Slightly cooler but may see a small dry window mid-day; surfaces damp and moderate risk of drizzle later.

🧭 Travel, Commuting & Outdoor Activity

  • Morning commute: Wet roads, spray likely on main roads like the A1(M), A19, A1058. Allow extra braking distance.

  • Afternoon & evening: The rain returns — making the later commute more challenging. Stay alert for pooling water / lower visibility.

  • Outdoor plans: The safest window is mid-morning to early afternoon. After about 3pm many activities will contend with showers/damp ground.

  • Wear a waterproof outer layer and bring an umbrella. Given the mild temps, you may not feel cold but you will feel damp.

🌡 Temperature & Comfort

  • Early start: ~13-14°C.

  • Mid-day high: ~15-16°C in favourable urban/inland spots; ~13-14°C in upland/coastal.

  • Evening/overnight low: ~12-13°C, possibly lower in sheltered valleys.

Although the readings suggest mild conditions, the cloud, rain and dampness will reduce comfort levels. You may feel colder than the numbers suggest because of the humidity and drizzle.

✅ What to Wear & Pack

  • Base layer + light fleece or mid-layer.

  • Waterproof jacket (preferably hooded) — essential.

  • Umbrella or hooded rain-cover.

  • For evening: a warmer layer recommended if you’ll be stationary or outdoors late.

  • For kids/family: waterproof footwear beneficial (play areas may be soggy).

  • Travel: check wipers/rain mode if driving; allow for wet surfaces and slower traffic.
