Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

North East’s Universities to showcase marketing talent in regional Greggs challenge

Students studying in the North East will demonstrate their marketing skills in front of an audience of key regional businesses, academics and fellow students at the University of Sunderland on 15 February.

Now in its fifth year, the Greggs Marketing Challenge will see students studying marketing at Sunderland, Newcastle, Northumbria and Teesside Universities competing to convince a panel of marketing experts that they have what it takes to help the food-on-the-go retailer stay ahead in a competitive market place. The winning team will spend a day at Greggs’ head office in Newcastle.

Two Keynote speakers will address ‘The Changing Face of Graduate Recruitment’. Margaret Fay CBE DL will bring a regional perspective as a former Chair of One North East, while Roisin Currie, People Director at Greggs, will bring an organisational and retail sector perspective.

Professor Michael Young, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sunderland, said: “We are delighted to be hosting this regional event, which promises to be an excellent showcase for emerging marketing talent and a great networking opportunity for companies and students. We’re looking forward to seeing how the students use their knowledge to deliver practical and effective marketing solutions.”

Graeme Nash, Head of Customer and Marketing at Greggs said: “Over the years we have been running the Marketing Challenge we have been hugely impressed by the calibre of work and enthusiasm that the students have brought to their projects. I’m looking forward to seeing the innovative ideas they come up with in response to our brief on Young Adults and Greggs: Keeping the Brand Contemporary.”

The Greggs Marketing Challenge event is being held on Wednesday 15 February from 4pm at the University of Sunderland, Prospect Building, Sir Tom Cowie Campus.
