BUDDING DJs are invited to hit the decks, with the launch of a new event at a leading Newcastle bar and kitchen.
The Union Rooms, at Westgate Road, has announced a monthly Open Deck Night, showcasing the talents of up and coming DJs around the city.
And those taking part in the event, which launches on Thursday 21 November, will compete for the chance to win a paid slot at the bar the following month.
The first night will feature 12 DJs playing either for half an hour or going back to back in an hour-long set with someone of a similar genre.
Voting cards will be given out on the night with every drink purchase and the winners will be announced on the Union Rooms’ social media page, with several of the paid slots up for grabs.
Stuart Young, of Cyclone Leisure, which owns the Union Rooms, hopes to see some undiscovered talent take centre stage.
“We have a fantastic DJ scene in Newcastle and we believe that’s something worth celebrating at the venue,” said Stuart.
“The whole point of the Open Decks Night is to give people the opportunity to try out their new material, or maybe even perform their tracks in front of an audience for the very first time.
“A few people from this event will get to perform at the bar on a Friday or Saturday in December and we’re looking forward to finding some new talent to work with going forwards.”
DJs who have previously performed at the bar include Meg Ward, Alan Surridge, Matthew Fenton, Murg and Bradley Parr and Josh Barrass.
