Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

stockton council largeAs part of a national research project Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is continuing its programme of workshops and activities for people with mental health issues, and would welcome anyone in this position to come along.

The Council is one of 60 local authorities to launch a Community Learning Mental Health pilot as part of a national research project which focuses on the positive link between mental health issues and adult community learning.

There are a range of workshops available for people to enjoy, including cooking, art, pottery, yoga, mindfulness, photography and summer planting.

Carol Lonsdale from Stockton has taken part in the project. She said: “This has been a wonderful experience for me. I have gained confidence and learned some new skills.

“It’s been great to meet new people and attempt new things that I wouldn’t have normally tried. An all-round enjoyable time.”

Councillor Jim Beall, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Health, said: “There are some excellent services available within our Borough to support people with mental health issues and we are really pleased to pilot these workshops as part of that offer.

“The Community Learning Mental Health workshops are a great way for people to engage in something enjoyable whilst helping them to learn new skills. They also a offer a warm and welcoming way for people to socialise and help improve their emotional health.”

If you are interested in taking part, or you know someone who would benefit or  would like an informal chat, please email Learning Support Officerchristine.vipond@stockton.gov.uk or call 01642 527910.
